THE NCDA ANNUAL EVENT is a gathering of the state's dance community which includes master classes, seminars, discussions and performances presented by North Carolina artists, administrators, educators and advocates. Also held during the Annual Event are NCDA's membership meeting, scholarship auditions and the presentation of the NCDA Annual Award. Student and group discounts are available.

The 2011 Annual Event will be held at the Durham School of the Arts (DSA)  in Durham, North Carolina on October 14-16, 2011. A PDF of the 2011 Annual Event brochure is available HERE.


Event Features

CLASSES  Over 30 different classes, including African Dance, Tap,  Contact Improv, Aerial Dance, Flamenco, Ballet, Site-Specific Choreography, Hip-Hop and more.  Classes available for all levels, from middle school age through professional, taught by talented teachers from across North Carolina.

NCDA CHOREOGRAPHERS SHOWCASE                                  Friday October 14 at 8pm                                                               Weaver Auditorium, DSA                                                                      An evening of adjudicated professional works by North Carolina Choreographers, including new work by the 2011 NCDA Choreography Fellow Renay Aumiller, and work by Gretchen Alterowitz, Virginia Dupont, Carol Finley, Kim Jones and Natalie Marrone.

NCDA YOUTH & COLLEGE SHOWCASE and 2011 ANNUAL AWARD PRESENTATION
Saturday October 15 at 7:30pm 
Weaver Auditorium, DSA
An evening of adjudicated works performed by North Carolina students, including work by Katie Leroy, Kelsey Riner, Christine Bowen Stevens, Betsy Ward-Hutchinson, and Christine Fisher/ Durham School of the Arts. Also included in the program is a performance of the work created with the 2010 Sue Stinson grant: a collaboration between Millbrook High School dance instructors and students and guest artist Autumn Mist Belk. Prior to the show, we will present the esteemed Annual Award to the 2011 award recipient.

NCDA INFORMAL SHOWING                                                       
Saturday Oct 15 at 3:30 - 5:00p
Carr Studio, DSA
The Informal Showing is a public showing of choreographic work at any stage of development. The performance will be followed by a moderated feedback session with the artists and audience. This showing is open to any NCDA member and is not adjudicated, but space is limited. Works may be up to 10 minutes, excerpts of longer works are welcome. Sign up is in advance on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up, email us with your name and the approximate length of your work.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING & LUNCHEON
Saturday October 15th at 12:30p
Lunch is included with Weekend Registration.  Please attend this very important meeting in which members of NCDA gather to network,  vote on important issues and hear current dance news. 

RESOURCE CENTER
Our event resource center provides a space for dance companies, schools, programs, musicians and others to display and distribute information. NCDA T-shirts will also be available for purchase. If you are interested in displaying materials, please email us.
