The NC Dance Alliance is collaborating with the NC Dance Festival (NCDF) to offer a new choreography award. NC Choreographers may submit a work in progress or a proposal for a new work, to be performed in one NCDF tour stop. The selected choreographer will be expected to present their work in progress in the NC Dance Alliance’s Spring 2016 Dance Swap, and an informal artist talk sponsored by Dance Project, in addition to the NCDF Tour stop. The selected choreographer will be awarded the NCDA/NCDF New Works Award of $500 for the creation of the work, and will receive payment ($450) for one performance on the NCDF statewide tour.

Notes from Chris about his new work: The dance I am making is an, as yet untitled, solo for my long time collaborator and life partner Taryn Griggs. We have been working from collages of images of historical modern dancers, instructional diagrams for aerobic disco routines, and illustrations of disembodied hands to create our own idiosyncratic vocabulary. Taryn’s performance is witty and dark. She is trying to strike a tone of soothing and calm while still reflecting a world that is doom and gloom.
